AMH Level Interpreter
Understand what your AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) result means for your fertility and IVF response. Get age-adjusted interpretation and guidance.
What is a good AMH level for IVF?
A good AMH level for IVF is typically 1.0-3.5 ng/mL. Above 3.5 ng/mL suggests high ovarian reserve (may indicate PCOS). Between 0.5-1.0 ng/mL is low-normal. Below 0.5 ng/mL indicates diminished ovarian reserve. However, AMH must be interpreted alongside your age—the same AMH level means different things at 28 vs 38.

AMH Reference Ranges
| AMH (ng/mL) | Category | Expected IVF Response |
|---|---|---|
| Over 4.0 | High | Strong IVF response likely, OHSS risk, possible PCOS |
| 2.0 - 4.0 | Normal | Good IVF response expected, typical medication doses |
| 1.0 - 2.0 | Low-Normal | Moderate response, may need higher doses |
| 0.5 - 1.0 | Low | Reduced response, fewer eggs expected, consider aggressive protocol |
| 0.3 - 0.5 | Very Low | Limited response, mini-IVF may be considered |
| Under 0.3 | Extremely Low | Poor prognosis for IVF, discuss all options with RE |
Note: 1 ng/mL = 7.14 pmol/L. Some labs report in pmol/L—divide by 7.14 to convert.
Typical AMH by Age
| Age | Typical AMH (ng/mL) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Under 30 | 2.5 - 5.0 | High reserve expected |
| 30-34 | 1.5 - 4.0 | Good reserve typical |
| 35-37 | 1.0 - 3.0 | Gradual decline begins |
| 38-40 | 0.7 - 2.0 | Accelerated decline |
| 41-43 | 0.3 - 1.0 | Significant decline |
| Over 43 | 0.1 - 0.5 | Very low reserve common |
Key Things to Know About AMH
Quantity, Not Quality
AMH predicts how many eggs, not how good they are. Egg quality is primarily determined by age.
Test Any Day
Unlike FSH, AMH can be tested any day of your cycle. It's stable throughout the month.
Declines Over Time
AMH typically drops 5-10% per year after 25, accelerating after 35. Track your trend.
Part of the Picture
AMH alone doesn't tell the whole story. Combine with AFC, FSH, and your RE's assessment.
